The World Heritage Days offer unique insights into the diverse natural and cultural treasures of Switzerland and allow views that are otherwise often denied to visitors.

On the occasion of the World Heritage Days, the Abbey of St. Gall invites visitors to a fascinating journey back in time. Craftsmanship, music, and art from past centuries come to life, offering an interactive exploration of medieval St. Gall.

 

Highlights

🛠️ Craftsmanship from Campus Galli
Artisans from Messkirch (www.campus-galli.de) demonstrate medieval construction work on site. Historical techniques, tools, and medieval architectural craftsmanship are presented in an engaging way, bringing the past vividly to life.

🎵 Gregorian chants
The sounds of medieval chorales create a unique acoustic world. Authentic vocal traditions from past centuries provide an impressive and immersive atmosphere.

🎨 Colors and painting workshop
Experts demonstrate how colors were made in the Middle Ages. Participants can mix materials and create their own paintings, offering a creative experience suitable for all ages.

✒️ Uncial script workshop
Using quill and ink, the creation of medieval uncial script is demonstrated. The workshop offers new perspectives on medieval calligraphy and makes historical techniques tangible.

🏛️ Lecture and guided tour
A lecture on the St. Gall Abbey Plan, the oldest surviving architectural drawing in Central Europe, and guided tours about life in medieval St. Gallen deepen historical understanding and provide fascinating insights into city history, architecture, and daily life of the past.
