Directly at the bottom of the famous Eiger North Face leads the Eiger trail in about 2 1/2 hours from the Eiger glacier station down to Alpiglen. The mountain trail winds through the picturesque landscape, past streams and bizarre rock formations. The mystic Eiger North Face is so close that you can feel properly its mysterious charisma. The walk is also recommended uphill and by train both starting and destination points are easily accessible.
Adolf Gsteiger, then 62 -year-old, carved out the path into the steep slopes under the Eiger, alone in just 39 days with shovel, pickaxe and crowbar. He wanted to create something lasting which enjoys other people. He certainly succeeded.
