Why do glaciers flow?

In 1854, the physicist Albert Mousson explained gravity as the actual motor of glacier movement: The ice formed in the nutrient area of the glacier flows down the valley like viscous honey and constantly supplies ice to the glacier tongue. Here, in the feeding area, the glacier loses ice through melting, especially in the summer and autumn months.
