UNESCO World Heritage

Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch

A glorious world of glaciers

Impressive mountain chains, quaint valleys and the largest connected glaciated area in the Alps. The World Heritage site is one of the most spectacular high-mountain landscapes in the world. It represents the heart of the Alps, with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau as well as the Great Aletsch Glacier covering a total area of 824 km2. The region brings together the most diverse habitats from glacier to steppe, and gives a clear view of the effects of climate change. The countryside has played just as important a role in European literature, art, mountain climbing and alpine tourism. Few other places on this planet could offer a comparable variety of contrasts and treasures.
