Hikes
Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch

Discover the rocky steppe

This hike along the Lötschberg southern approach is a great way to admire the Mediterranean vegetation of the rocky steppe. The southern slopes of Valais are also one of the last refuges of the Western green lizard in Switzerland – it is on the red list of endangered species. So, as you walk, be sure to pay attention to any rustling in the undergrowth. Perhaps a Western green lizard will reveal itself to you!

The hike starts at Ausserberg station and goes through Längi Schlüecht, then meanders through Ze Gadmu to Eggerberg. The route then continues to Mund and Birgisch via Warbflie, and on to Naters via Rossegga. The path through the old village centre takes you past the World Nature Forum UNESCO Visitor Centre to Brig station.

The route runs through several municipalities with lots of public transport connections, so you can shorten it as much as you like. It is very suitable for families with children.
