This circular trail starts at the Hasliberg-Reuti mountain station and takes you downhill towards Innertkirchen, Grimseltor. Once you have arrived down at the Aare, cross the river and walk downstream to the entrance at «Aareschlucht Ost» («Aare Gorge East»). This is where the Aare Gorge trail actually begins.
There have been safe paths providing access to this gorge since the end of the 19th century. Comfortable wooden walkways take you along the vertical rock faces as the mysterious and menacing water murmurs and gurgles below you. In some places, the gorge is so narrow that the walls almost seem to be touching. Bizarre rock formations and impressive stratifications bear witness to the water's power to shape the land.
Finally, you take the «Aareschlucht West» («Aare Gorge West») entrance to go back to Meiringen.
