View Point: Lauterbrunnen Valley (Männlichen)

At the break-off edge of the western, steeply descending slopes of the Männlichen a unique view is provided to the typical trough shape of the Lauterbrunnen valley. Over millennia the elemental forces of glaciers and waters have shaped this distinctive landscape. 72 waterfalls shoot down to the valley over the up to 600 meter high vertical rock faces, therefore the name Lauterbrunnen. J.R.R. (meaning clear source) Tolkien let himself inspire by this unique landscape. Thus, in the world bestseller "The Lord of the Rings", the descriptions of the place Rivendell (Bruchtal) has striking similarities to the landscape of the Lauterbrunnen valley.
