Terrace of the Val Mara

In April 2019 the Terrace of the Val Mara has been inaugurated. It is a sort of classroom in the woods for a mixed audience of adults and young people and enriched by binoculars and numerous educational content.

Immersed in the woods just above the Gaggiolo torrent, in one of the most suggestive panoramic points of Monte San Giorgio, from where you can observe and almost touch with your own hands the imposing rocky cliff of Calcare di Meride. A unique opportunity just a few steps from the Museum of fossils and from the picturesque village of Meride, where you can discover the paleontology and geology of one of the main excavation areas of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Monte San Giorgio.

The contents, proposed in the national languages and in English, include educational and views panels, binoculars, casts of fossils, stone pyramids, models of fossils and reconstructions of the Middle Triassic environment, 239'000'000 years ago, when Val Mara was a subtropical sea basin.

Remarks

Park your car before the village of Meride. Walk along Via Serpiano (in the direction of Hotel Serpiano) for about 500 meters.
