The Italian-speaking Val Poschiavo in southern Graubünden, from the Bernina Pass to Valtellina, shows itself at its best from the windows of the Rhaetian Railway. The route, which passes over the Albula Pass and the Bernina Pass, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 2008 and offers spectacular views of the unspoiled natural and cultural landscape of the Poschiavo Valley.
Some of the places along the railway line are true gems worth visiting, such as the village of Le Prese. The village is nestled between steep slopes and overlooks Lake Poschiavo. The lake, dammed by a prehistoric landslide, attracts both those who want to enjoy a refreshing swim in the summer and those who prefer fishing, surfing, or simply strolling along the shore.
Le Prese is also known for producing herbs for tea. In this region, more than 30 types of organic tea plants and herbs bloom and scent the air in summer, giving Le Prese a very special atmosphere.
Le Prese is already a good starting point for hiking and cycling tours. However, the hiking area is significantly expanded thanks to regular train and bus connections, which allow you to reach all the sights in the area: the capital Poschiavo with its cobbled streets and imposing patrician houses with stone roofs, the Val da Camp nature reserve with its rich alpine flora and enchanting mountain lakes Lagh da Saoseo and Lagh da Val Viola, the impressive glacier mills of Cavaglia, and finally, just a few minutes by train down the valley, the Smuggling and Wine Museum and the extraordinary spiral viaduct of the Rhaetian Railway in Brusio.
