Since the Bernina Railway was designed as an interurban line, it was still possible to add stops later on. The Diavolezza stop was thus established in 1956 as a feeder to the newly opened Diavolezza aerial cableway. However, the Diavolezza area was not entirely newly developed: A hut already existed at around 3000 meters, near the new mountain station of the cableway, as early as 1893.
