This hike runs along the Lonza through Lötschental, one of the most pristine valleys in the Alps. It starts at the Fafleralp, which offers an impressive view of the Lang Glacier, the Anen Glacier and the Lötschenlücke. From there, the route takes you through meadows filled with magnificent flora and fauna to Chiematt, a dreamy hamlet with a chapel. You then reach Blatten, after which the trail more or less follows the course of the Lonza to Goppenstein.
The route also takes you through the municipalities of Wiler, Kippel and Ferden, which means that you can shorten the hike at any point by hopping on the PostBus, or even take a short tour of some of the historic village centres.
The hike through the sometimes narrow valley goes past areas of impressive damage caused by storms, debris flows and avalanches, which bear witness to the power of natural forces. Impressive though it is, the power of nature here means you must take the warning of falling rocks in rainy weather («Warnung vor Steinschlag bei Regenwetter») very seriously.
