The SYCAMORE trail in Reichenbachtal

Sycamore pastures are ancient, cultivated, cultural landscapes. For centuries, these habitats that shaped the land were managed in the traditional way. Now, they are becoming increasingly rare owing to changes in agricultural practices, such as more intensive farming on the one hand and abandonment of the land and the proliferation of forests on the other. However, here in Reichenbachtal, some of these unique areas with stands of sycamore trees have been preserved in their quintessential form. More than 600 trees, many of them ancient and gnarled, stand on the Alpine pastures of the valley. You can find out more about these fascinating trees, their role in the ecosystem and the stories they have to tell on the SYCAMORE trail. The walk through the old stands begins on Schwarzwaldalp and leads to Hotel Rosenlaui. The SYCAMORE trail is signposted as a themed trail and can be walked in both directions.

Our themed trail brochure provides detailed information on all of the locations. We also highly recommend taking a guided sycamore tour through Reichenbachtal.
