Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch

Hike at the Gamchi Glacier basin

You can reach Griesalp by public transport! All you need to do is take Europe’s steepest PostBus route – with a 28% incline! Start out from the Kurhaus bus stop. The trail takes you along a steadily ascending dirt track up to Bürgli via Blachmad and, from there, along a paved path into the vast basin of the Gamchi Glacier. After that, there is a steep ascent to Oberloch.

On the leisurely descent to Mittelberg via Bundläger and Oberi Bundalp, hikers can enjoy the wonderful views of the far end of the Kiental – something that should definitely be savoured in a moment of peace and quiet. Next, you will return to Griesalp via some steep steps and the impressive and untamed Gries Gorge to Tschingelsee. Here you will walk through a unique meadow landscape, which was created by a violent storm in 1972, and will eventually reach the PostBus stop at Restaurant Alpenruhe.

If you fancy extending this circular trail walk by about two hours, you can walk from the Gamchi Glacier basin up to the Gamchi Glacier and continue to Oberloch from there.
