This exciting and historic hike takes you through one of the driest regions in Switzerland and is also very suitable for families.
Set off down the valley from Ausserberg and follow a country lane to St. German. Further west, walking via the Heidnischbiel, you will reach the famous Raron Castle Church, where you can see the grave of the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Afterwards, you should take your time and walk through the old alleys to the new church built into the rock under the castle church. From the edge of the village, follow the road west and after 1.5 km, you will reach the historic village centre of Niedergesteln.
If you feel like walking further, you can walk back along the Rhone to the Raron SBB station or take a detour across the suspension bridge over Joli Gorge in Niedergesteln.
