View Point: Surging Billow of the Fisi Landslide

The huge post-glacial Fisi landslide still dominates the lanscape around Kandersteg. A large part of the landslide material was deflected by the opposite flank of the Howang towards the valley and filled up the valley floor with debris and rubble up to 400 meters high. The slide field of the «Risete», west of the railway line (see right edge of the photo) was created by this impact of the limestone (Oerlikalk) from the Fisistöck on the even older rubble of the «Höh». The slide did not yet come to rest.
