La Molière district

The La Molière district, built between 1902 and 1907, was another initiative on the part of Georges Favre-Jacot, whose aim was to ease the speculative housing market in the period by offering some workers the opportunity of respectable housing. The ensemble consists of 9 units, in two storeys. Built north-south, the western facade benefits from the setting sun. To the north of this row is a building with apartments for the upper classes. To the south, there is an agricultural building. This complex is representative of a utopian plan for a residential zone in the industrial era that would be as autonomous as a monastery. It was the forerunner of an architecture focused on grouped housing that became popular towards 1975: a construction method and a form of urban planning that were considered to be interesting, economical and innovative.
