The Church of St. Peter in Mistail is the only unaltered Carolingian church in Switzerland.
The convent was founded in 1806 as a bishop's monastery, presumably on the initiative of the monastery in Cazis. The interior of this Carolingian three-apsed hall contains paintings from three different periods: Carolingian frescoes from shortly after the church was built, Gothic paintings from 1400 to 1410, and Baroque decorative paintings from the 17th century.
