Immerse yourself in the World Heritage: a one-day programme awaits you to spend with family or friends in the world of the Convent of St. Gall!
The Abbey Library opens its doors at 10 am. It is one of the oldest and most important libraries in the world and the entire Abbey has been a UNESCO World Heritage property since 1983. Slippers are provided at the entrance, as the parquet floor itself is also over 250 years old. The Abbey Library has developed a puzzle fun, especially for families called "The Missing Parchment", which can be purchased at the Abbey Library or in the exhibition space for 12 francs. While solving the riddle, you will discover the history and buildings of the Abbey of St. Gall. We recommend the tour to all kids who can already read. Are you already curious?
If you are hungry, we recommend the "Klosterbistro" directly opposite the monastery library or the Drahtseilbähnli shop, where you can get snacks and ice cream or cool drinks.
Afterwards, we recommend a visit to the Red Square in St.Gallen, also known as the living room of Switzerland. It has huge flower vases, seating areas and even a car in red colour that you can climb around on. Try it out.
If the weather is nice, a trip to the Wildpark Peter & Paul is worthwhile. There you can learn how the first ibexes came to the park. You can reach the park by public transport (line 5 from the station in the direction of St.Gallen, Rotmonten to the Sonne stop) and then walk for about 15 minutes. Alternatively, there are parking spaces on site. The entrance is free and also suitable for prams. Besides ibexes, there are many other animals to see, such as lynxes, deer and wild boars. From the restaurant Peter & Paul, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Lake Constance as well as the city, its Heritage and region of St.Gallen.
