Swiss UNESCO Ambassador on World Heritage Tour

Benedikt Wechsler, the new Permanent Representative of Switzerland to UNESCO in Paris, has embarked on a unique journey in August 2025: driving a Microlino – a Swiss-made, eco-friendly electric microcar – he will visit numerous UNESCO World Heritage properties across Switzerland.

The two-week tour began on 4 August 2025 in the Abbey of St. Gall, one of Switzerland’s oldest and most significant cultural landmarks. From there, the route led to other impressive sites, including the Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes, the Tectonic Arena Sardona, the Fortress of Bellinzona, the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch region, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces, and on through Geneva to Bern. The journey concludes with the ambassador’s official arrival in Paris – the headquarters of UNESCO – where he will begin his diplomatic mission.
